Board Drops Assessment Rate on Employers to 2017 Level

The New York State Workers' Compensation Board has dropped the assessment rate on employers for 2020, the board announced. The rate will drop from the 2019 rate of 12.6% of standard premium or premium equivalent to 12.2%, starting Jan. 1, according to a bulletin from the board. For 2018, the rate was set at 12.1%. For 2017, it was 12.2%. The assessment is used to fund the administration of the workers' compensation system, and to fund benefits paid to volunteer firefighters and ambulance workers.
