A lawyer representing the family of a contractor killed at a gold mine in Nevada told the Associated Press he's settled a wrongful death suit with the mine's operator, subject to final approval from a federal judge.
Randall Edwards, an attorney representing the estate of Joe Ashdown, said he could not disclose terms of the confidential agreement with Newmont USA.
Ashdown, 21, in 2011 died at Newmont's mine in Carlin, Nevada, about 275 miles east of Reno. According to the complaint, he was not properly trained on how to comply with requirements for the safe repair of tires.
