BWC Awards Another Grant for Keeping Carcinogens off Firefighters

Tuesday, October 9, 2018 | 0

The Ohio Bureau of Workers' Compensation has awarded the Grand Rapids Township Fire Department a $15,000 grant to help keep carcinogens off of firefighting gear and clothing.

The grant is part of the bureau's Firefighter Exposure to Environmental Elements grant program, which is part of the bureau's practice of providing safety grants and premium rebates to employers and municipalities.

The grant will be used to purchase a washer-extractor for gear, washable firefighting gloves, and hoods with barrier protection to block carcinogenic particles, according to a local news report.

Ohio passed a cancer presumption law in 2017, and the bureau later in the year launched its program to provide safety grants, education and training for firefighters.
