Benefits to Rise 2.3% to Keep Pace With Inflation

Monday, April 30, 2018 | 0

Injured workers in Rhode Island will see a 2.3% bump in weekly benefits, starting May 10, the Division of Workers' Compensation announced.

By law, benefits paid by insurers and employers are tied to increases in the Consumer Price Index, as determined by the U.S. Department of Labor. The index rose 2.3% this year, so Rhode Island weekly benefits must also rise by that amount, the division said.

"By statute, increases shall be paid by insurers and employers without further order of the court," the division's bulletin reads. "Late payment of the increase may result in the assessment of a 20% penalty on the unpaid amount."

Questions may be addressed to a Workers’ Compensation Education Unit representative at 401-462-8100, option No. 1.
