Investigators have charged Metter insurance agent Thelga Mahalia Nelson, 52, with four counts of felony workers’ compensation insurance fraud.
Nelson allegedly sold fake coverage and pocketed the premium, then issued unsuspecting clients bogus certificates of insurance as proof of coverage.
One fake certificate cost a general contractor more than $34,000 in additional premiums, the Georgia State Board of Workers’ Compensation’s Enforcement Division said in a press release.
