The El Monte City Council is investigating the city treasurer’s workers’ compensation claim which was mysteriously approved by a former city manager to pay for $50,000 in medical bills, according to the San Gabriel Valley Tribune.
City Treasurer Jerry Velasco, who was severely injured in a car crash last November, spent nearly three months in the hospital and submitted his medical bills to his lawyers. He told the paper he was unaware of the claims process and wasn’t even sure how much of his medical bills were covered.
