After peaking in 2016, the average cost per episode for air ambulance service in workers’ comp dipped to $20,384 in 2017, according to a new report from the National Council on Compensation Insurance.
“While air ambulance episodes represented approximately 5% of all ambulance episodes in 2017, they accounted for nearly half of all ambulance payments, illustrating their relative costliness compared with ground ambulances,” said Dan Clayman, manager and associate actuary at NCCI who wrote the report.
