A bill that would create a special enforcement unit to crack down on employers that misclassify workers as independent contractors cleared its first legislative committee on Wednesday.
The House Commerce Committee approved House Bill 482, a measure introduced by Rep. Brig Gen Gary Pendleton, R-Wake, according to a report in the News & Observer newspaper.
