A New York woman has been charged with felony welfare and insurance fraud after investigators discovered that she was collecting workers' compensation benefits and food stamps while working, according to a report in the Madison County Courier.

The Madison County Sheriff's Office arrested Tanya M. Chesebro, 34, of Oneida on Monday. She allegedly received $15,849 in benefits from the New York State Insurance Fund and $2,567 in food stamps to which she was not entitled. The Sheriff's Office said that Chesebro was receiving income for "labor" while collecting benefits, but did not specify what kind of job she held.

Chesebro is charged with 20 counts of first-degree making a false sworn statement, third-degree grand larceny, fourth-degree grand larceny and third-degree insurance fraud, according to the Courier. She was arraigned in Town of Lincoln court and booked into Madison County Jail, the newspaper said. Bail was set at $25,000.

Chesebro is scheduled to appear in the Town of Lenox Court today to answer the charges.
