Lobbyists for employers and organized labor on Thursday testified in support of a bill requested by the Washington State Department of Labor and Industries that would create a new reserve fund for self-insured employers and prevent interest earnings from being moved to the state’s general fund.
Senate Bill 5084, by Senate Republican Leader John Braun of Centralia, would create the self-insurance reserve fund within the Office of the State Treasurer, which would be separate from the reserve account for “state fund employers” that are covered by L&I.
