XL Catlin opened an underwriting hub in California's Bay Area for its contractors’ multi-line insurance and risk management products.
The global insurer and reinsurer also announced Charles Marmolejo will serve as executive underwriter of the new San Francisco hub for North America Construction, while Dan McCarthy will serve as senior underwriter.
Marmolejo will help the company’s clients in the construction industry cover workers’ compensation, general liability and auto risks.
McCarthy, who is moving to San Francisco from the company’s office in Chicago, will work with brokers to identify excess liability risks throughout the western U.S.
Gary Kaplan, president of XL Catlin’s North America Construction, said in a statement that construction activity is increasing in the western part of the country. Opening the underwriting hub in San Francisco is an attempt to put “more construction insurance expertise in the same time zone for our West Coast brokers and clients,” he said.
