Prime Occ Med Plans Expansion Into Texas

Baton Rouge-based Prime Occupational Medicine is planning to expand into New Orleans and Texas, steps that could double the Louisiana company’s size.
Prime has already doubled in size over the last five years, growing to eight clinics and about 200 employees, The Advocate reported. The move into New Orleans and Texas is expected to take place over the next 24 months.
Prime works with large employers, stationing medical providers at the sites of large projects such as the Cameron liquified natural gas job site in Sulphur with 9,000 workers, according to The Advocate.
Sean Connor, Prime’s vice president of business development, told the publication that the company has benefited from focusing solely on occupational medicine services rather than also offering urgent care.
Another source noted that occupational medicine can be lucrative, since reimbursements in worker's compensation are better than those from other types of insurance.
