Officials from New Mexico's Workers' Compensation Administration will discuss the implications of a state appellate court ruling striking down as unconstitutional a 78-year-old law exempting farm and ranch workers from coverage during a Sept. 2 forum at the Luna County Courthouse, according to a report by the Deming Headlight.
The New Mexico Court of Appeals in June said farm and ranch workers are indistinguishable from other agricultural workers and that there are no legitimate state increases to justify excluding them from the workers' compensation system.
