Bureau Offers Another Rebate Program for Workplace Safety

Friday, June 8, 2018 | 0

The Ohio Bureau of Workers' Compensation is offering yet another rebate program, this one aimed at encouraging small businesses to participate in more workplace safety measures.

The Policy Activity Rebate, as it's called, was approved by the workers' compensation board at its May meeting. It will grant employers 50% of their premiums in rebates, up to $2,000, Kevin Abrams, chief operations officer for the bureau, said in a statement.

The bureau provides a number of rebates for employers, including what's known as the Billion Dollars Back program, which in four of the last six years has returned at least $1 billion a year in premiums paid by more than 180,000 Ohio companies. The latest of those rebates, in the mail this month, granted employers 85% of their premiums.

A spokeswoman for the bureau said that if the billion-dollar rebate continues in coming years, the rebate for the new safety program will be deducted from the larger check. In other words, employers cannot stack rebates on top of one another for a net gain.
