OSHA Cites Chemical Company after Worker Asphyxiated

The U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration cited a West Virginia chemical manufacturer with 12 serious safety violations after a worker was killed while sandblasting at the company's plant in Nitro, W.Va.According to news reports, Rex Wilcoxen, an employee of AC&S Inc., was killed in June when an air hood he was using was mistakenly hooked to a nitrogen line. Wilcoxen was taken to a Charleston, W.Va., hospital where he died.OSHA said in a news release nitrogen poses several risks to workers, including displacing available oxygen.
