DWD Notifies Claims Handlers that Law Will Sunset

The state Department of Workforce Development has issued a notice to claims handlers for insurers and self-insured employers that a provision in the law relating to disability compensation will sunset May 1.DWD Administrator John Metcalf said the provision that allows no offset of temporary compensation based on wages for the first 24 hours an employee works while receiving retraining benefits is about to expire.The provision was enacted in 2011. It took effect on April 17, 2012, with a two-year sunset. It was not extended by the Legislature and therefore drops out of the law. For more in...
