Two Georgia state senators have filed a bill that would enact a presumption law for firefighters found to suffer from certain medical conditions.
Senate Bill 29 is sponsored by Sens. John Albers, R-Roswell, and Jeff Mullis, R-Chickamauga. The bill would provide for a rebuttable presumption that certain medical conditions suffered by firefighters are occupational diseases contracted in the line of duty. Those conditions would include:
Hypertension;
Heart disease;
Respiratory disease;
Cancer, AIDS or hepatitis manifesting during the period in which the person is employed as a firefighter,...
