The Washington State Department of Labor & Industries announced that it has filed permanent wildfire smoke rules, which will take effect Jan. 15.
Among the rules, employers are directed to create response plans, train employees, monitor smoke levels, implement two-way communications systems and make sure workers have quick access to medical treatment.
Employers are also required to take specific action when dangerous material in the air, known as particulate matter or current PM2.5, rises above a certain level.
