House Votes to Increase Comp Burial Expenses From $2,500 to $7,500

South Carolina's House of Representatives has voted to increase the amount of burial expenses payable under workers' compensation to $7,500. The House voted 108-0 in favor of H. 3879 last Tuesday. The bill increases the amount from $2,500. The average cost of a funeral with a viewing and burial in the U.S. was $7,181 in 2014, according to a survey of roughly 1,000 funeral home owners conducted by the National Funeral Directors Association in 2015.
