EEOC Sues Manufacturer for Screening out Job Applicants with Carpal Tunnel

The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission last week filed a lawsuit against an Illinois manufacturer for improperly screening out job candidates it deemed susceptible to carpal tunnel syndrome based on the results of a pre-employment physical and their health history. The suit calls into question how much an employer can rely on reports from independent physicians when making hiring decisions without running afoul of the Americans with Disabilities Act.
