Retired Officer With Violent Past Loses Bid for Leave Time Accrual

A former New Orleans police officer's workers' compensation settlement did not entitle him to continue to accrue sick and annual leave time after he took a disability retirement, the Louisiana 4th Circuit Court of Appeals ruled. The city fired former police Officer John Auster in 1995 after he fired a shotgun into a car occupied by six teenage boys who had been involved in a fight with his son.
