Insurance carriers that assume coverage for Texas self-insurers do not need to include the company's experience when determining premiums in most cases, the National Council on Compensation Insurance said this week.
The NCCI made the filing at the request of the Texas Department of Insurance, in keeping with a state law passed in 2017. House Bill 1989 made it easier for self-insurers and self-insured groups to hand workers' compensation coverage back to carriers, and the Division of Workers' Compensation adopted rules in December to implement the law.
