The Virginia General Assembly passed a bill that would allow group self-insurance associations to merge.
The Senate on Feb. 16 voted 40-0 to pass HB 2418, by Del. William C. Wampler, R-Abingdon. The state House of Representatives voted 100-0 to pass the bill Feb. 6.
HB 2418 would allow the State Corporation Commission to develop criteria for mergers and approving the joining of two or more self-insurance associations.
The bill would require any resulting pool to assume in full all obligations for the merged group.
