Bill Would Remove Requirement for exempt Corporate Officers to Notify DOL

Corporate officers in Alabama who elect to be exempt from workers’ compensation coverage would no longer have to notify the Department of Labor of their exemption under a bill sponsored by state Rep. Jack Williams, R-Montgomery. House Bill 522 has been referred to the House Committee on Commerce and Small Business. Under present law, corporate officers who elect the coverage exemption must file a written certification with both the labor department and their insurance carrier of their exemption.
