Liberty Mutual Planning to Demutualize

Liberty Mutual Insurance Co. announced that it is planning to convert to a mutual holding company. The plans call for a new structure that would allow it to issue shares of common stock, thought the company said that it isn't planning to demutualize. There are no current plans to issue the stock however. The reorganization would create three levels: Liberty Mutual Holding Co. would be the umbrella organization; a second holding company under that would be a vehicle for issuing stock, and there would be three operating insurance companies.
