The New York State Office of the Workers’ Compensation Fraud Inspector General conducted investigations that uncovered more than $1,043,000 in fraud last year and resulted in 38 criminal prosecutions.
The prosecutions included three cases of provider fraud, 10 cases of employer fraud and 25 cases of claimant fraud.
Those statistics are included in an annual report for 2017 released by Inspector General Catherine Leahy Scott.
In the provider fraud category is the case of Dr. Gregory B. Shankman, a central New York orthopedic surgeon who was arrested on Aug. 15.
