The federal work safety agency fined a contractor more than $150,000 after two workers collapsed in a sewer from fume exposure, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration announced last week.
OSHA issued seven safety citations to Don M. Barron Contractor of Baton Rouge. Associated penalties total $152,147.
In the future, the contractor must test confined spaces for hazardous gas before sending workers into them, OSHA's Baton Rouge-area director, Dorinda Folse, said in a statement.
