The Monterey County District Attorney’s Office announced that an uninsured tree trimmer was sentenced to 40 days in jail, and a restaurant owner faces a 90-day sentence after admitting to underreporting payroll to receive lower workers’ compensation premiums.
Fernando Sanchez pleaded guilty to one misdemeanor count of not carrying workers’ compensation coverage and admitted to a prior conviction for the same offense. He was ordered to serve 40 days in jail, which can be served in a work alternative program.
