The Medical Board of California posted to its website answers to frequently asked questions about the requirement for providers to consult with the state’s prescription drug-monitoring database when prescribing certain controlled substances.
Starting Oct. 2, providers must query the Controlled Substances Utilization Review and Evaluation System and run a “patient activity report” the first time a patient is prescribed a Schedule II through IV drug.
