The rate of increase in the cost of Florida workers' compensation claims doubled in 2019 following years of relatively modest growth and after the state Supreme Court ruled that the attorney fee schedule and total temporary disability limits were unconstitutional, according to a study from the Workers Compensation Research Institute.
The total cost per claim increased by about 4% per year between 2014 and 2018, but the growth rate rose to 8% starting in 2019 and continued into the first quarter of 2020, according to the study.
