Validus Holdings reported net income of $30.7 million in the second quarter, compared to $167.6 million for the same period in 2012.The Bermuda-based insurance and reinsurance company said it incurred $77.6 million in losses from a notable loss event during the quarter. The event added 14.2 percentage points to the quarter's loss ratio. Underwriting income for the second quarter dropped to $117.7 million, from $149.4 million for the same period last year.
