Board Settles With Guam Port Workers Fired Over Comp Claim

The Port Authority of Guam's board of directors signed off on settlements with three workers who were fired in 2012 over an allegedly fraudulent workers’ compensation claim, according to the Guam Daily Post.

The port fired seven workers in March 2013 for their alleged involvement in falsifying records to indicate marketing director Bernadette Meno was taken to Guam Memorial Hospital immediately after an accident in September 2011. The Port Authority said Meno never went to the hospital and was not entitled to collect $77,000 in travel and medical expenses.

A resolution that the port’s board approved Dec. 12 settles litigation with Josette Javelosa, a program coordinator in the marketing office; Frances Arriola, a personnel specialist in human resources; and Leonora Leon Guerrero, a planner-work coordinator.

Settlements were approved following a closed-door meeting. Details of the agreements were not made public, the Post reports.
