Federal work safety inspectors found that Virginia postal workers sometimes walked around and between moving trucks in the dark on the loading dock of a mail processing facility in Merrifield.
Occupational Safety and Health Administration inspectors recommended that the post office replace the lighting on the dock and levied a financial penalty against the U.S. Postal Service. In all, penalties from its June 13 inspection of the Merrifield facility totaled $178,156.
