Study: Marijuana for Chronic Pain Helps Cut Opioid Use

Chronic pain patients who have opted for medical marijuana as a treatment alternative have been able to significantly cut down their use of opioid prescription medications and other drugs, according to a recently published study in the JAMA Network Open. The study looked at 1,724 individuals who identified as suffering from chronic pain, and the results showed that more than half of adults using cannabis to manage their pain simultaneously decreased their use of opioids, prescription nonopioids and over-the-counter pain medication.
