Ethics Commission Files Complaint against Indicted Mine Inspector

A former Kentucky state mine inspector who was indicted for allegedly taking bribes from a state representative is also facing a complaint from the state Executive Branch Ethics Commission, according to the Associated Press. The ethics commission charged Kelly Shortridge with four counts of violating state ethics law for his alleged participation in the scheme with Rep. W. Keith Hall, D-Phelps. A federal grand jury indicted Hall for paying Shortridge more than $46,000 to ignore safety violations at mines owned by Hall, while Shortridge was indicted for extortion and lying to federal agents.
