A California appellate court last week ruled that the partners operating an air ambulance service were immune from civil liability for the death of a flight paramedic in a crash four years ago.
On Dec. 10, 2015, pilot Thomas Hampl lifted off from the Porterville airport in a helicopter operated by SkyLife. He had paramedic Kyle Juarez, a nurse and a patient on board.
The helicopter crashed outside McFarland, killing all four.
Juarez’s wife and two minor children filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the companies that operated the business.
