W.R. Berkley Corp. has reported second-quarter net income of $217 million, a 20% increase from $180 million in the second quarter of last year.
For the first half of 2018, net income was $397 million, up 15% from $346 million in the prior-year period.
Workers’ compensation net premium written fell 4.2% for the second quarter and 1.3% for the first half of the year, to $340 million and $695 million, respectively. The company’s workers’ comp rates fell 4.1% in the quarter, while rates for other commercial lines increased.
