Whether a workers’ comp drug formulary is exclusive, or if payers may also use their own pharmacy tools, is an issue that’s not talked about enough when states are crafting formularies, according to the government affairs director at one pharmacy benefit manager.
“Most states that adopt a formulary have sort of an implied idea that it’s going to be exclusive, but may not explicitly state that in the regulations,” said David Price, director of government affairs for Preferred Medical. Price discussed formularies during a Preferred Medical webinar last month.
