Thanks to a New Hampshire law that was passed in 2019, pharmacy benefits managers must register with the state Department of Insurance.
The requirement does not apply, however, to PBMs that work exclusively in the workers' compensation arena, Insurance Commissioner Christopher Nicolopoulos said in a bulletin.
PBMs that provide services exclusively for self-insureds also do not need to register. But health insurer PBMs that conduct utilization reviews must also obtain a medical utilization review license.
