Uber Technologies Inc. has moved closer to ending class claims over its failure to provide workers’ compensation coverage.
The ride-finding company revised a deal that offers drivers occupational accident insurance, and a California judge ruled that the revised contract is clear. A class notice is ready to be sent, the Law360 legal news website reported.
The deal sets up a contract between 600,000 California Uber drivers and a third-party insurance company to end litigation claiming the company improperly denied workers’ compensation to the drivers.
In January, Uber also agreed to pay some 2,400 New York drivers $3 million to settle a class-action lawsuit that alleged the company illegally took a 2.5% workers’ compensation premium surcharge from drivers instead of passengers.
The news comes the same day that Uber agreed to pay $10 million to settle a class-action discrimination suit brought by 420 female and minority software engineers who alleged that men and white or Asian employees were favored at the company, news outlets reported.
