Court Upholds Identity-Theft Conviction for Claimant Who Used False SSN

The Kansas Court of Appeal last week upheld the criminal conviction of an injured worker whose comp claim led authorities to discover his unauthorized use of another person's Social Security number. In an unpublished per curiam decision Friday, the court said it was not persuaded that the federal government's exclusive authority over immigration matters trumped the state's ability to prosecute Alejandro Hernandez-Manrique for identity theft and providing false information.
