A Connecticut woman has been charged with defrauding the state's workers' compensation system of more than $8,000, after she was spotted allegedly running a business while collecting injury benefits.
Samantha Jenkins, 31, of Wethersfield, was arrested this week by inspectors from the Workers' Compensation Fraud Unit in the State's Attorney's office, according to a statement from the office.
Jenkins reported an injury in 2017 while working as behavior analysis instructor at an education center. She collected $8,065 in benefits and another $3,364 in salary while she claimed she was unable to perform her teaching job, the report said.
Inspectors conducted surveillance and found her allegedly running a smoothie business, but under oath, she said she did not own a business. She was released from custody after she promised to appear in court on May 17.
