A former laborer in the city of Paterson's recycling division has been charged with insurance fraud for allegedly working a second job while receiving temporary total disability benefits, NorthJersey.com reports.
Francis Branis, 48, was arrested Wednesday on charges of second-degree insurance fraud, according to the Passaic County Prosecutor's Office.
He is accused of delivering beer and soda for a private company while receiving workers' compensation benefits from the City of Paterson for an injury sustained at the recycling division.
In an attempt to keep workers' compensation costs down, the city began cracking down on workers' compensation fraud in 2015. Paterson paid more than $6.5 million in workers' compensation claims last year, NorthJersey.com reports.
