OSHA Orders Railroad Co. to Pay $12,000 to Conductor Disciplined for Taking Sick Day

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration has ordered a Kansas City railroad company to pay $12,000 in damages to an employee it allegedly disciplined for taking a doctor-ordered leave of absence. The employee, a train conductor, went to a doctor because he felt ill on Nov. 18, according to a Tuesday press release from the administration. He told his superiors at BNSF Railway Co. that he wouldn't come into work after the physician recommended he stay at home the rest of the day.
