Philip A. Baddour III, a deputy commissioner for 16 years, has been nominated to be a commissioner on the North Carolina Industrial Commission.

Gov. Roy Cooper nominated him for a six-year term pending confirmation by the state General Assembly, a press release states.

Commissioners earn $127,000 a year.

Before joining the commission in November 2000 and being reappointed to a six-year term as deputy commissioner, Baddour practiced law in Goldsboro and represented injured workers. He then joined the state Department of Justice as an assistant attorney general defending state agencies in workers’ compensation and tort claim actions.

Earlier in his career, he was a judge advocate general officer in the North Carolina National Guard and achieved the rank of captain before receiving an honorable discharge. He earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1992 and his law degree from Campbell University School of Law in Raleigh.
