Legislature Agrees to Extend Premium Subsidy Fund Until 2020

The West Virginia Legislature agreed this week to continue maintaining a workers' compensation premium subsidy fund for volunteer fire departments until 2020. The fund was created to help volunteer fire departments defray their workers' compensation premium costs. Excess money collected by the Insurance Commissioner for the Fire Protection Fund is deposited into the premium subsidy fund each year. The fund also received a single payment of $4 million from the Fire Marshal Fees Fund in 2013. The Senate passed Senate Bill 1010 by a 32-0 vote on Wednesday. The House also passed the bill...
