Former Comp Attorney Rick Kimnach Dead at 62

Former Chicago workers' compensation attorney Richard "Rick" Kimnach died July 15 at his home in Bloomfield, Indiana, the Illinois Workers' Compensation Commission announced Thursday. He was 62.

Kimnach practiced law in Chicago for 30 years, specializing in workers' compensation. He was admitted to the Illinois Supreme Court in 1980 and the U.S. Supreme Court in 2005.

Kimnach was an avid reader and enjoyed photography in his spare time. Born in Needham, Massachusetts, Kimnach is the son of Donald and Nancy Sitgreaves Kimnach, and he is survived by his wife, Sue E. Wall; stepdaughter Leslie (Kyle) Matherly of Bloomington and stepson Britton Sobkoviak, both of Bloomfield; sister Carol (David) Youngclous of Woburn, Massachusetts; brother Don Kimnach of North Miami, Florida; step granddaughters Ashton and Logan Matherly; and mother-in-law Joyce Wall of Watseka, Illinois. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Kimnach was a 1971 graduate of Watseka Community High School. He graduated from University of Illinois in 1975, where he was a member of the Alpha Sigma Phi fraternity. In 1980, Rick received his Juris Doctor from Loyola University in Chicago.

Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday Aug. 1, at the Knapp Funeral Home in Watseka. Visitation will be on Saturday from 1 to 3 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Watseka.

Memorials may be made to Richland Township Fire Department or Southern Care Hospice.
