Goodman, a Democrat, was in his fifth term in the North Carolina House of Representatives, representing House District 66. He resigned from his seat following the Senate’s confirmation vote, the Richmond County Daily Journal reported.

Goodman will fill one of three “employer” seats on the six-seat commission, according to the Journal. His unanimous confirmation vote by the Senate followed a unanimous vote by the House last month.

Goodman is a former business owner from Rockingham, North Carolina, and was a board member of the Richmond Community College Foundation. From 1969 until 1975, Goodman served in the Army National Guard.

His term on the Industrial Commission will end April 30, 2025.
