Three retirees in Fitchburg, Massachusetts, have been able to take advantage of a loophole allowing them to collect almost $1 million in workers’ compensation benefits years after they retired, according to a report in the Sentinel & Enterprise newspaper.
At a hearing this past Wednesday, City Solicitor John Barrett testified about a glitch in the state’s law that allows those who receive permanent and total workers’ compensation benefits to continue receiving benefits after retirement.
