Paper Mill Settles With OSHA For $175K

The federal work-safety agency has reached a settlement with a Carthage, New York paper milling company cited for 62 violations of work-safety standards last year. The company, Carthage Specialty Paperboard Inc., will pay $175,000 in penalties.  Occupational Safety and Health Administration inspectors noted last year that Carthage Specialty lacked a fall-protection system and safeguards on machines to prevent them from injuring workers or automatically powering up.  As part of the settlement, Carthage Specialty must hire two full-time safety and health staffers, perform weekly saf...
